Maryland's Hispanic Businesses Honor Karen Barbour

Karen Barbour, president, The Barbour Group (TBG) was awarded the 2008 Business Achievement Award by the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Hispanic Chamber of Montgomery County and the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The award, given annually at the Maryland Hispanic Legislative Reception, recognizes one entrepreneur who has made significant contributions toward strengthening the State’s Hispanic business community.

Speaking to a capacity crowd at the Miller Senate Office Building, Charles Ramos, president, the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce thanked Barbour for all her hard work and acknowledged the important role she has played in “helping the dreams of small, women, and minority owned businesses come true.”

Barbour’s courageous support of House Bill 169, the Maryland Individual Surety Law, was also highlighted during the event. The new law, for the first time in Maryland’s history, authorizes State agencies to accept alternative forms of surety bonds for construction and service contracts.

Ramos went on the declare Barbour’s expertise as a surety professional as a “very important” resource for Hispanic business owners, especially prime contractors who seek to win contracts with the State of Maryland.
